Bec and Sam, from the Sisters of Saint Joseph offices in Adelaide, raised over $6,000 recently for the Mary MacKillop Today First Nations Scholarship Program.
“Our journey began in March, as part of a staff Socially Minded Engagement initiative,” says Bec.
“Sam and I decided to take part in Stadium Stomp, a 6,000-step challenge at Adelaide Oval, to raise $2,500 which is one semester of tuition for a First Nations Student.
“Little did we know that the support we would receive leading up to the event from fellow staff, Sisters, corporate sponsorship and the community, saw us raising not just $2,500, but over $6,000 for this wonderful program. The support was not just monetary. It was a chance to actively engage with each other and the community and live out our Josephite values. In this, we found our inspiration and encouragement to take on this challenge and make a difference.”
“We were super excited to be joined by some of the Adelaide Sisters ‘our Support Team’, flying Mary MacKillop Today and Mary MacKillop banners from the Stadium seating,” continues Sam.
“We walked up and down every step of every seating area of the entire stadium and finished with a triumphant final lap of the oval. We certainly earned every dollar that was donated! By the time we crossed the finishing line, we were absolutely exhausted and were weak at the knees, but our spirits were high as we were greeted by our beautiful Sisters who presented us with our finishing medals. It was a great way to finish, and we knew and felt the appreciation of the Sisters, for all that we had achieved for Mary MacKillop Today.”
As Bec and Sam share – it was a truly wonderful experience.
