There’s still time to donate to the Stadium Stomp taking place on 20 August.
The SOSJ Stompers are in final preparation mode – with team leader Bernadette leading the way.
“We can’t wait to tackle the 4,000 steps on Sunday morning – raising funds for the Mary MacKillop Today’s First Nations Tertiary Scholarship,” says Bernadette who has worked for the Sisters of Saint Joseph for four years.
We are inspired by Mary MacKillop’s motto to ‘never see a need without doing something about it’.
“I like physical exercise, so I thought this challenge is the perfect fit for a fundraising idea. Reaching out and empowering hope to others also aligns with the mission and values of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.”
Bernadette lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches so she’s been taking advantage of the many coastal walks available on her doorstep – including ones with lots of stairs!
“There are 82 stairs along the North Narrabeen headland walk so I have been going up and down them 10-15 times every training session to prepare for the Stadium Stomp.”
The fundraising idea is part of a larger Congregational campaign to support the work of Mary MacKillop Today’s First Nations Tertiary Scholarship.
The First Nations scholarship program works to address systemic barriers to education by increasing access to tertiary studies for First Nations students through providing financial support. This helps to ensure that scholarship recipients can achieve a better quality of life for themselves, their families and communities.
